Seventeen travellers from New Zealand have been caught at Melbourne Airport attempting to sneak into town after travelling through Sydney.
The 17 passengers landed in Sydney from New Zealand earlier on Friday as a part of the primary group of the brand new Trans-Tasman bubble.
“Victoria has not agreed to a journey bubble association with New Zealand and didn’t count on to obtain worldwide travellers on account of NSW making that association,” the Division of Well being and Human Companies stated in a press release.
“The Victorian Authorities has made it clear to the Commonwealth that we count on NZ passengers who haven’t undertaken quarantine is not going to be permitted to board flights in Sydney certain for Melbourne.”
It has been reported that the travellers had been detained.
The DHHS says its officers “do not need authorized authority to detain the travellers on arrival”.
It’s unknown if another company detained the 17.
The Australian Border Power advised 9News.com.au that home border restrictions had been a matter for states and territories.
The passengers are believed to have been stopped earlier than they might depart the airport, and had been reportedly awaiting the primary flight again to Sydney.
Below present virus restrictions, Victoria will not be open to any worldwide travellers.
