
Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales took pole place for Sunday’s San Marino Grand Prix after setting a lap document in qualifying to edge out Petronas Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli in Misano on Saturday.
It was the Spaniard’s second pole of the season and his time of of 1min 31.411sec was 0.312 faster than Morbidelli. Championship chief Fabio Quartararo will begin the race from third on the grid.
“I really feel on the restrict,” Vinales, who eclipsed Jorge Lorenzo’s all-time lap document of 1: 31.629 set in 2018, advised reporters.
“We tried to take out all the utmost from the bike… for certain we made an excellent technique as a result of I saved various tyres in the course of the weekend to place all the pieces into Q2. It pays.
“I really feel superb. I had a very good few weeks at dwelling… carried on the nice temper and each lap I felt unbelievable on the bike… we’re going to attempt to go on the most tomorrow.”
